The 14th China Air Cargo Summit 2017 will take place in Tianjin on November 8th-10th, 2017. This event is organized by Summit Asia Events and hosted by Tianjin Binhai International Airport. The annual China Air Cargo Summit was launched in 2004 and was held in the Chinese cities including Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Beijing and Hangzhou in the past 13 years. The Summit is characterized with partnering with the local airport authority and the locally based cargo airline every year.

The theme of this year’s event is “Building the northern cargo hub; establishing a global air logistics center”. The synergy development of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Province was positioned as a national strategy in February 2014. Two months later, the Political Bureau under the Central Committee of Chinese Communist Party, China’s top decision making body, approved the outline of synergy development of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Province, aiming to build Tianjin into an advanced manufacturing and R&D base in China; a core shipping area in north China; an experimental area of financial innovation and a reform demonstration pioneer. The policy also pointed out that Tianjin Binhai Airport’s function as a regional air cargo hub needs to be further strengthened, and China’s role as an international air logistics center needs to be established.

A series of national strategies including the synergy development of Beijing-Tianijn-Hebei Province, "One Belt, One Road", opening-up and reform of Binhai New District and the establishment of Free Trade Zone provide unprecedented opportunities for Tianjin. The Free Trade Zone, one of China's only four, covers the whole Tianjin Airport, is bringing direct benefits to Tianjin Airport, which is capable of accommodating 25 million passengers and 700,000 tons of cargo and mails per year. At present, there are 48 passenger and cargo airlines at Tianjin Airport operating 176 scheduled routes. The network mainly covers East China, South China, Northeast China and Hong Kong. On the freighter side, there are 11 cargo airlines operating 19 routes in Tianjin with a weekly movement of 160 flights per week. In 2016, Tianjin Airport saw a cargo and mail throughput of 237,000 tons growing 9.1% over the year before. Tianjin airport therefore ranked the 13th airport among all the civil airports in China. The Civil Aviation Administration of China and the Tianjin Municipal Government pay great attention to Tianjin’s cargo development also. The former issued a policy of “Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei airport routes network optimization method” encouraging airlines to open freight routes and develop cargo business in Tianjin; The Tianjin Municipal People’s Government granted financial support to air transportation companies to set up cargo offices and promote the further development of air cargo business.
