The 5th China Airport Check-In Summit 2014 will take place on April 16th-18th, 2014 at Renaissance Shanghai Caohejing Hotel. It will be organized by Summit Asia Events and hosted by Shanghai Airport Authority and China Eastern Airlines. Meanwhile, IATA will host a one-day workshop as Summit Asia's long-term partner.

According to the Annual China Airport Check-In Report (2012-2013), presented by Summit Asia, there were 21 airports with annual throughputs of 10 million or more people in China. Therefore there is a serious need for upgrading self-service check-in services. A sample of 13 airports (accounting for 47% of national passenger volume) showed on average 17.5% of passengers used self-service check-in, this is compared to a global average of 68%. The report shows that self-check-in at airports with more than 30 million passengers’ increases to 27.1% whereas at the smaller airports it remains between 13.1% and 15.6%. 45% of Chinese airports hope to build independent self-check-in platforms and 33% are willing to develop mobile check-in applications in order to help China catch up.

Meanwhile, the wide use of smart phones and the arrival of the fourth generation of mobile technology era in China will further facilitate passengers experience in finding needed locations and the check-in process. The aspiration of passengers to have easy access to the real time flight status and the push notification prior to their airport arrival is also a pending satisfaction by airports, airlines and the third party service providers.

Internationally, the whole process of passengers’ airport experience are increasingly streamlined and simplified. For example, passengers can print their bag tags at home, check in anytime and anywhere, be pre-checked at security points, and board the aircraft by using biometric technologies. This speaks about the future development direction of airport check-in in China.

It is against this background, the 5th China Airport Check-In Summit is organized. You are cordially invited to participate in the hope of sharing new ideas, new visions and the passion on cutting-edge check-in processing technologies, baggage handling systems and the ways to better enhance passenger experience.
